ASS to SRT Converter — ASS to SRT Online Free
Load an .ass subtitle and this ASS to SRT converter extracts the dialogue the way every player can read: Start and End times become SRT timestamps, override tags like {\i1} are stripped, \N becomes a real line break, and commas inside dialogue stay commas. The styling ASS carries — fonts, colors, positioning — cannot survive, and the tool tells you so instead of pretending.

How to Convert ASS to SRT in 4 Steps
ASS (Advanced SubStation Alpha) is a scripting language for styled subtitles; SRT is plain timed text. The ASS to SRT conversion keeps the words and the clock, nothing else.
- 1
Upload the .ass file
Drop the file or paste its source. The ASS to SRT parser locates the [Events] section and reads its Format: line to learn the column layout.
- 2
Dialogue is parsed properly
Dialogue: lines are split by declared columns — Text is last, so commas in dialogue never break the parse. Comment: lines are skipped as notes.
- 3
Text is cleaned
Override blocks like {\i1} are removed with a warning, \N and \n become line breaks, and ASS centisecond timing is converted to milliseconds for the ASS to SRT output.
- 4
Download the SRT
Review the cue count against the source's Dialogue count, then download a standard .srt with renumbered cues in start-time order.
What an ASS to SRT Conversion Keeps and Loses
ASS files style everything: karaoke sweeps, positioned signs, colored fonts, animations. SRT has none of that vocabulary, so an ASS to SRT conversion is necessarily a reduction — the art direction leaves, the dialogue stays.
Being explicit about that loss is the point of this tool. Every strip is reported: override tags, drawing commands, and the centisecond rounding inherent to ASS timing (at most 5 ms per timestamp). You always know what your ASS to SRT file went through.
Dialogue, comma-safe
"Hello, world!" stays one line of text — the ASS to SRT parser never splits the Text column on its own commas.
Real line breaks
\N in ASS becomes a genuine newline in SRT, preserving two-line subtitles exactly as authored.
Timing within 10 ms
ASS stores centiseconds; converting ASS to SRT rounds to 10 ms and round-trips inside the ±10 ms tolerance subtitle tools accept.
Comment lines ignored
Comment: entries in [Events] are production notes, not subtitles — the ASS to SRT output leaves them out and says how many were skipped.

Every ASS file declares its own column order inside [Events]. The ASS to SRT converter reads that declaration instead of assuming fixed positions, which is why unusual export orders still parse correctly.
Why styling cannot transfer
Fonts, colors, borders, rotation, fades and per-character karaoke live in ASS styles and override tags with no SRT equivalent. Rather than fabricate fake tags that break players, the ASS to SRT conversion removes them and keeps your dialogue pristine.
Vector drawings
ASS can draw shapes with {\p1} commands — logos, signs, decorative text. These are graphics, not dialogue; the converter detects them, drops them, and lists the drop in the notices.
Batch ASS to SRT work
Studios with entire series in ASS run the ASS to SRT pass per episode: load, confirm the dialogue count, download, repeat. Each ASS to SRT conversion is instant and local, and because the parser reads each file's own Format: declaration, differently-authored exports all convert cleanly without per-file tweaks.
Common ASS to SRT Situations
Anime fansubs are the classic case: styled ASS for computer playback, but a TV or console player that only reads SRT. A quick ASS to SRT pass yields the compatible file while the styled original stays archived.
Localization pipelines converge on SRT too — translators receive ASS from the studio, work in simple tools, and deliver SubRip. And when a QC step needs a plain-text read of the script, SRT to TXT finishes the job after the ASS to SRT conversion.
And a final ASS to SRT habit: archive the original .ass next to the exported .srt. The styled master keeps every effect for future re-renders, while the plain ASS to SRT copy serves every player that demands SubRip.
