How the SRT Converter Works in 4 Steps
Instead of one page per direction, this universal SRT converter lets the file and a dropdown decide.
- 1
Drop any subtitle file
Upload .srt, .vtt, .lrc, .ass or .txt. The SRT converter sniffs the format automatically and shows it as a badge — override it manually if a file is mislabeled.
- 2
Pick the output format
Choose SRT, VTT, TXT or ASS. Directions the engine has not been tested for are visibly disabled rather than failing silently.
- 3
Review cues and notices
The preview lists every cue with timings, and notices explain anything the conversion normalizes — renumbering, metadata drops, estimated timing.
- 4
Convert and download
The SRT converter writes the output locally, names the file from your original and hands you the download. Copy output is one click too.
Every Direction This SRT Converter Supports
The universal converter shares one engine with all the dedicated pages, so results are identical whichever route you take — this page just removes the need to know the destination in advance.
Supported pairs include SRT to VTT, SRT to TXT, SRT to ASS, VTT to SRT, VTT to TXT, LRC to SRT, ASS to SRT and TXT to SRT, plus same-format normalization passes that renumber and tidy files. Unsupported combinations are disabled with an explanation instead of returning your original file disguised as a conversion.
SRT to VTT / VTT to SRT
The web-vs-desktop bridge: dot and comma milliseconds swap, headers appear or vanish, dialogue untouched by the SRT converter.
TXT to SRT / LRC to SRT
Build subtitles from plain text or timed lyrics — the SRT converter applies the same timing rules as the dedicated pages.
ASS to SRT / SRT to ASS
Styled subtitles reduced to dialogue, or plain SRT upgraded with an editable ASS style block.
To TXT transcripts
From SRT or VTT: strip timing and metadata for clean reading copies via the SRT converter.
How the SRT Converter Detects Formats
Extension first, content second. A file named episode.srt is read as SRT; a file with no reliable extension gets sniffed — the WEBVTT header means VTT, [Events] plus Dialogue: means ASS, [mm:ss.xx] tags mean LRC, arrow timestamps mean SRT, and everything else is treated as plain text.
What the SRT converter looks for when sniffing
WEBVTT… → VTT (header line) [Events] + Dialogue: → ASS (sectioned script) [00:12.30]line → LRC (timed lyrics) 00:00:01,200 --> → SRT (comma timestamps) plain lines → TXT (estimated timing)
Manual override
Renamed and mislabeled files happen. The format buttons let you force the parse — the SRT converter re-reads the content instantly and tells you if the forced format does not fit.
Format-specific options
Choosing TXT input reveals the timing settings; LRC input shows last-line duration and offset; SRT to ASS exposes the style block. The universal page only shows what the selected direction needs.
Honest unsupported states
A grayed-out output button means the direction is not part of the tested conversion graph — the SRT converter never downloads an input file pretending it was converted.
Round-trip confidence
Every direction the SRT converter enables has been round-trip tested: convert SRT to VTT and back, and the cues, text and timing are identical to the millisecond. That is the standard the whole conversion graph holds, whichever SRT converter route you take.
When to Use the Universal SRT Converter
Batch evenings with mixed folders: an SRT here, a VTT there, one stubborn LRC — one page handles them all without hunting for individual tools. Exploration days: you found a subtitle file and do not even know its format — drop it in and the badge tells you.
When you do know the exact direction, the dedicated pages (SRT to VTT, VTT to SRT, TXT to SRT and friends) add workflow-specific guidance and examples. The universal SRT converter is the Swiss army knife; the single-direction pages are the screwdrivers.
