VTT to TXT Converter — VTT to TXT, Pure Dialogue

Pull the words out of a WebVTT file and leave the machinery behind. This VTT to TXT converter strips the WEBVTT header, cue identifiers, timing arrows, NOTE comments and layout settings, then hands you clean transcript text to copy or download — processed entirely on your device.

How to Convert VTT to TXT in 4 Steps

WebVTT wraps dialogue in headers, identifiers and settings; a VTT to TXT extraction unwraps it without touching a word.

  1. 1

    Load the WebVTT file

Upload the .vtt or paste its source. The VTT to TXT parser validates the header and reads every cue, separating dialogue from metadata.

  2. 2

    Confirm what is removed

The notices show exactly what the VTT to TXT output excludes: WEBVTT header, NOTE blocks, cue IDs and any align/position settings found.

  3. 3

    Pick transcript options

Choose whether to include marked timestamps and whether to keep each cue's line breaks — both VTT to TXT styles preview live.

  4. 4

    Copy or download

Copy the transcript straight to your clipboard or download the .txt, with one blank line between cues for readable spacing.

What a VTT to TXT Conversion Removes

A transcript is only clean if the extraction is surgical. The VTT to TXT converter removes precisely the WebVTT scaffolding — never dialogue: the WEBVTT header line, cue identifiers, the --> timing lines with all their settings, NOTE comment blocks, and any markup tags inside cue text.

The result contains no leftover artifacts to grep out later: no scene-1 strings, no align: hints, no stray NOTE text. That is the standard this VTT to TXT page is held to, and the preview proves it before you export.

Header gone

The WEBVTT line opens every source file and appears in zero VTT to TXT exports.

Cue IDs gone

Identifiers name cues for styling and scripting; transcripts do not want them, so the VTT to TXT output drops them.

Notes and settings gone

NOTE blocks and align/line/position settings are reported and excluded — dialogue only after VTT to TXT conversion.

Timestamps, your call

Plain prose by default; flip one switch for a timecoded transcript with clear start → end markers per cue.

Why the NOTE never appears

NOTE blocks are authoring comments. The parser classifies them before extraction, so VTT to TXT output is guaranteed free of comments — no post-cleanup regex needed.

Line breaks preserved or joined

Keep mode maintains the two-line shape captions use on screen; join mode merges them into flowing sentences. Both VTT to TXT modes respect Unicode, so no character is mangled either way.

Timecoded variant

For editing and compliance work, enable timestamps: each block is prefixed with [00:00:01,200 → 00:00:03,400] — explicit, greppable and clearly not dialogue.

VTT to TXT in bulk

Productions with weekly episodes batch the VTT to TXT pass: open each caption file, download the transcript, done. Every VTT to TXT run is instant and local, filenames derive from the source, and the output is stable enough to diff between weeks — only real dialogue changes show up in a VTT to TXT comparison.

Who Converts VTT to TXT

Course creators pull transcripts from their platform's caption exports for handouts and SEO pages. Podcast teams archive show notes from VTT captions. Accessibility groups produce text alternatives for caption-heavy material. All of them start with a VTT to TXT extraction that stays faithful to the dialogue.

Because the conversion is local, confidential recordings — internal training, unreleased episodes — never leave the machine. Need SRT instead of text? The VTT to SRT converter is one click away in the toolbox.

One more VTT to TXT use: feeding the transcript into a translation tool. Clean text in, clean segments out — no NOTE fragments or cue IDs to clean up afterwards.

A final VTT to TXT tip: run the export once before any major caption revision. Diffing the old and new VTT to TXT transcripts shows exactly which lines changed, without opening a video timeline.
